well, if it is a fictional character then mine is definitely either
(i) Abby from NCIS because she uses a machine called a ‘mass spectrometer’ like i do, except she never uses it properly on the programme. This is true for a lot of science shown on these programmes but it is getting better now that they are speaking to real forensic scientists to make sure the science shown is as accurate as possible.
or
(ii) Batfink, although he isn’t really a forensic investigator – more a super hero and as much as we like to think of ourselves as super heroes we definitely aren’t! here’s a link so you can check him out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0Sow24CAQs&feature=related
Strangely enough I was once described as the Columbo of Twitter by the TV presenter Ben Shephard, but when I complained because Columbo is old and grumpy, he kindly changed it to Batman 🙂
Fictional, I have to go for Monk. I like his thought-processes and his disregard to rules to get to the truth.
Factually, I will go for a guy called Charles Stockley Collins. I am being a little biased because he was the first person to present fingerprint evidence in England in 1901 (for a burglary) and 1905 (for a murder)… and spookily enough I found out he is my first cousin, 4 times removed when researching my family history. http://www.fpsociety.org.uk/news/wdytya.html
Hi! Well, I think it has to be Inspector Morse. He is the absolute classic detective, who thinks laterally about his cases. And he has his weaknesses like we all do. I also like Temperance Brennan, or ‘Bones’, from the Kathy Reichs books and the TV series Bones. I prefer the character in the books – she’s more believable, but on the TV series, she gets to spend time with David Boreanz, so I’m jealous of that! 🙂
I would have to say Columbo, he is an absolutely genius, I like the way he acts dumb and makes the suspects feel like they have got away with it and then he subtly hints on things that the suspect never thought he would find, such as if you had the coal fire on their would be soot deposits in the chimney. Fantastic character, I wonder if they are on DVD I would so buy them right now. After IAS clicks eBay 🙂
I’ve already said on my profile that I love Sherlock Holmes, so he would be my first choice. I love reading about his powers of deduction.
There are loads of other brilliant detectives in fiction, although not necessarily forensic detectives. I’m a big fan of Ian Rankin’s Inspector Rebus, and also Mark Billingham’s DI Thorne character.
