      Excellent question 10mlcam,

In the short term, the answer has got to be yes, as nobody has come up with an efficient alternative.

Now I have a 17 year old son, who always raves about solar power, and I can see a wind farm from my home… but they are not quite there yet as an alternative.

I hope they find an answer soon as fuel bills and the cost of petrol is not very good….. so try not to use too much gas and electricity at home (unless you need to)… and, if its easy and safe to do so, walk to your friends house instead of getting your parents to drive you 😉

      Hi 10mlcam,
I think that in the short term, yes, fossil fuels will continue to be used. I think this is because governments aren’t really taking the problem of global warming and climate change seriously enough, and are still too motivated by the money to be made by drilling and selling oil. But one day, the resources will run out, and then we will all have to find alternatives.
I like the idea of solar power very much, and wind farms (as Richard has said), and I think there are other alternative fuels that are becoming more popular. For example, there are now cars that run on old cooking oil from fish and chip shops, and people who make electricity using biofuel such as horse and cow poo. I think it would be brilliant if we could find a way to use household rubbish as fuel, or even human poo, because there must be a lot of that! I saw a Bang Goes the Theory program a while ago, where they rigged up lots and lots of people on bicycles to run the house’s electricity, and I think that is a great idea – you could get fit and run the shower at the same time! 🙂
